Miniature spectrometer data analytics for food fraud

Abstract Machine learning has been extensively used for analyzing spectral data in food quality management. However, collecting high-quality from miniature spectrometers outside the laboratory is challenging due to various factors such as distortions, noise, high dimensionality, and collinearity. This paper presents an in-depth analysis of datasets collected evaluate characteristics, by focusing on a case study olive oil check, where machine models were applied differentiate pure adulterated oil. Furthermore, impact pre-processing techniques distortions was studied. It comprehensive pipeline, including pre-processing, dimension reduction, classification, regression analysis, deploys different algorithms comparative classification analysis. The model performances assessed using 2 separate methods: tenfold cross-validation entire dataset with 10% random testing, test set environments (multi-session validation). first validation approach reached rates up 96.73%, while second achieved 83.32%. These results demonstrate that cost-effective augmented suitable pipeline could execute tasks par non-portable more expensive spectrometers. highlights requirement specialized handle ambient conditions affecting acquisition eliminate performance gaps, making situ scenarios. work extends previous research enable consumers becoming line defense against fraud.
